Lindsay McKenzie

Independent Director

Lindsay was appointed to the board in April 2019 at the end of a long career in senior leadership roles in local government. His initial training was as an environmental scientist.

In May 2018 Lindsay resigned as the CEO of Tasman District Council having previously been CEO for the Gisborne District Council and the regional authority Environment Southland.

In addition to his directorship with Taylors Contracting, Lindsay is currently supporting Invercargill City Council with its governance performance improvement programme and has a lesser role with Christchurch City Council. He is also a director of Network Tasman Limited.

Previously Lindsay gained governance experience within the not-for-profit and voluntary sector where he served as the YMCA New Zealand National Council President. He continues his association with the YMCA as its Nelson President.

“I was attracted to serving on the Taylor’s Contracting board because of the reputation the company and family had for being a high performing, local, family-owned business with a value set aligned to mine. Previously I had been on the procurement side of contracts in the public sector. I was keen to support the company to grow the public sector contracting side of its business by bringing some of that experience to the table – albeit from the other side of the contractual relationship.

“Taylor’s reputation for fair dealing, quality delivery, skills and knowledge, environmental stewardship, care for its people and support for its community was known to me before I went on the board. Over the past two years I’ve seen Taylors’ values in action and can say, hand on heart, that the business walks the talk at every level.

“As an independent member of the board of a family-owned business you quickly realise that, while it’s their capital that is on the line, the business’ success depends on the quality of its relationships, the quality of its client offering and the trust and confidence that people have in doing business with the Taylors Contracting team. That sums up Taylors Contracting’s values for me.”
