Three years ago we installed a solar PV system on the workshop roof which featured in a Nelson Mail story (www.stuff.co.nz/nelson-mail/news/103990163/new-zealands-changing-energy-landscape-to-include-sola...). After three full years in operation we now have the data to show that the system produces ~50MWh per year from ~38,500 kWp of panels (140 x 275Wp). Not only is this helping us to conserve energy and reduce our energy bill, we're also exporting to the electricity grid (especially on Sundays). This year we expect to add solar panels to the new workshop shed roof and hope to double what we currently have installed with the aim of being a net exporter (i.e. exporting more electricity than we import). ... The new water tanks at our Brightwater site are set to supply 75 percent of the annual water needs for head office. This estimate is based on our current consumption and adequate rainfall to ensure the tanks are full. We will harvest water from the new workshop and part of the old workshop when it rains and this will be stored in the 3 x 25,000 L tanks. The hose at the wash pad will draw from the tanks until supply reaches a certain level (we are trialling a volume of 12,500 L) within the last tank in which case the set up will start drawing from the town scheme. We are currently limited to taking 5000 L per day from the town scheme and the new water tanks will make a really significant contribution to helping us manage our water consumption. ... The Waimea Community Dam is a very significant project for us and we’re really proud that our team is performing so well even in the face of major unforeseen factors such as the impact of Tasman fires and two lockdowns due to COVID.Despite those challenges, we’ve been able to complete the work in our original project on time. In fact, we’ve been able to go above and beyond. We thought a few numbers would be of interest to show how the job has evolved and what we’ve been able to deliver to date over and above what we were originally contracted to deliver.· More than 160,000m3 of additional earthworks· More than 2700m of additional grouting· Nearly 61,000m3 of additional engineered fill· Nearly 245,000m3 of imported earthworks which wasn’t in our original contract· More than 2700m of additional permanent rock anchorsWhen you consider that our contract required meeting some very big targets anyway e.g. the nearly 20,000m3 of concrete that has been required to date, the fact that our team has more than surpassed the initial targets is a real testament to their efforts. We wanted to congratulate our team for really demonstrating our company’s values on the Waimea Community Dam project and showing the priority we place on providing great customer service. ...
