Safety Training, Qualifications and Experience

Training is an important element at Taylors as we believe being well trained minimizes the risks associated with our projects and how we all interact with the rest of the team. Taylors recently won the Nelson / Marlborough NZ Contractors Award for Excellence in Training 2004.
We ensure all staff are formally inducted to the company and site and regularly audit both the site and employees for safe behaviour. We have a qualified assessor as part of our company structure and encourage all of our staff to be involved in some form of training.
Our managers, supervisors and field staff have all recently completed the Site Safe Civil Passport programme and are Operator Safe Accredited.
Most field staff have either completed, or are in the process of completing, a National Certificate and these contain unit standards which relate to health and safety. Most staff have current first aid certificates and have undergone training in hydration, nutrition and health and safety in the workplace training.
Managers have been through hazard identification and investigation training.
Safety Record
Taylors have a well trained stable work force with a very proactive safety culture and are committed to eliminating the majority of circumstances that can cause safety issues by good planning and job controls.
Hazard Identification
Taylors Management System Procedures detail how the company identifies, assesses and controls health and safety and environmental hazards in the workplace.
Site Specific Hazards
Identifying site specific hazards is an essential part of managing health and safety within our projects effectively. All staff working on site undertake a “hazard identification” process prior to commencing the job to ensure that all hazards for this project are identified, assessed and controlled.
Accident Reporting and Investigations
Taylors Management System Procedures detail how the company reports and records any accident, incident or near miss injury, non-injury accident and environmental incident. Processes are undertaken to determine the cause of the accident and ascertain actions to prevent its reoccurrence.
The Safety Plan also provides an Emergency Plan providing a process to be followed in case of serious harm accident. Information on the Emergency Procedure is also provided to all staff during the induction process and they are provided with emergency information material including stickers for their machines as a quick reminder.
